Not caring for BS (confidence) meter or Confidence (BS) meter. Maybe I'm unduly influenced by your negative score, but if I can't differentiate between someone spinning the facts to provide some level of dishonesty and working against a deadline, then I'm not sure how I make use of a negative score. I can appreciate the value of a positive score (I trust Joseph, Joseph is confidant in what he is writing, I trust what Joseph is writing), but I'm not sure how to make use of the negative implication of the negative score. Can it be filtered/combined with one of the other (e.g., love/intent) to define the lack of confidence? I'd really like to be able to use it to know if someone is intentionally pulling the wool over my eyes.
Joseph Responds: Hi, Todd! Thanks for reading and commenting.
I also have some challenges with "BS" meter. I think my challenges come more from what is being measured. Someone knowing they are intentionally fabricating with malice a'forethought is very different from someone intentionally fabricating without malice...hmm...you may have helped me figure out an alternative methodology to measuring BS...
Anyway, there's also a lot of difference between someone being unsure about their information versus someone have a complete lack of confidence in their information.
All these things go into the calculations and it's why I'm very particular about what we tell people we're able to measure and providing measurement on.
For what it's worth, I'm not upset by my negative score. As I wrote, I don't define myself as a confident person. Also, I always believe there should be at least one more thing I should check before saying "such is so". These behavioral beliefs demonstrate themselves in the numbers shown above.

The magnitudes in message intent all seem relatively close. How can these values best be understood? If we collected information from a couple hundred popular sites, what would we expect average values to be? Standard deviation? If 50% in the people in the room are brunette I'm not surprised, if 50% have a 6th digit on their hand I'm assuming its a small room. If you're giving 50% love in your text, I don't know if you are in a bad mood, love me, or love love me. Anything you can provide to help internalize the values further would be helpful.
Joseph Responds: Thanks for bringing this up. The charts currently show "normalized" information and I'm not a strong believer in normalizing this kind of material because doing so (I believe) removes other valuable information. For example, normalizing results to a scale of 0-100 doesn't include very important information that (for example) the Love factor was 2097 and the Troll was 10, very different than 99% and 0%, especially if something else being analyzed returns with results of 115 and 0 (which might also be normalized to 99% and 0%). The former author is perforce non-consciously demonstrating a lot more "Love" than the latter author even though all other "obvious" variables (post length, topic, platform, audience size, ...) are equal.
So thank you for providing me with an external argument for non-normalization of this chart, at least.

And do let me know if there's something else I can do for you.
Please continue reading and commenting, too. - Joseph

Thanks,
Todd

@Jen @Joseph

There's certainly ample volume to analyze, isn't there.
